What is Be in Balance?

Imagine working longer hours than most of your friends, having no HR department to offer support in times of ill health and having entirely new work colleagues every few days. Place on top of that, running multiple businesses; increasing responsibility and dependency on you, which means you’re more than likely going to need to work through ill health to pay the bills.

Stressed yet?

This is the reality for many of our field team and people across the UK who navigate the world of self-employment.  When you’re self-employed, you are your own business and therefore the wellbeing of your business depends on your health.

Why did we develop Be in Balance?

With many of the 25/8 Group HQ team having worked in the field marketing industry as Brand Ambassadors, Event Managers and Merchandisers alongside other self-employed roles, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that being self-employed presents. We recognise that in an employed role, an organization would likely have a HR department to help you manage health risks in the workplace. But, when you’re your own boss, you’re also your own HR manager.

Before my role at 25/8 Group, I spent several years working in the health and social industry. I trained care staff to improve their skills and provided advice on how they could look after themselves in a demanding role. Whilst I enjoyed the work, I soon noticed that in taking care of others, I had lost sight of looking after myself. This affected my work/life balance and had a significant impact on my mental wellbeing. Moving into the field marketing industry, I noticed that many of the challenges faced by our field team impacted their wellbeing in a similar way. I’m not afraid to say that, having tackled mental health issues myself for many years, I’ve always been a huge advocate of supporting people to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.

 

 

After seeing some of our team face difficult scenarios, I wanted to explore if there was any way that we could help them either prevent or manage some of the situations that they were facing. Be in Balance began as scribbles in a notebook that I presented to our Directors. Despite my vision not being fully formed, both Neil and Danny, not only recognised my passion to bring this into our business but, also mirrored my thoughts. It all started with wanting to try and alleviate some of the pressure that our team face and do our best to keep our field team well when they work with us. This is where Be In Balance was born!

What will be on offer?

We will be offering networking sessions for our field team to attend. We hope this will help our team build business relationships, decreases loneliness and present them with ideas to improve their skills from their peers.

 

 

We’ll be hosting free face to face and online training workshops, focused around running your own business; from sessions managing finances delivered by professional accountants to guidance on creating digital content for social media platforms. We’ll also be giving all our team opportunity to be involved in fundraising events for charity with us, including fundraising for charities voted for by you. These events will also be a great opportunity for team building.

 

 

In addition, we will also be providing signposting support for our field team around mental health and physical health support so that they are able to explore the options available to them from professionals.

Balance is not always something that we find, but, we hope that we can help our field team create it.
